'Same Roads' - Down Lee's Hill

from CA$525.00

‘Same Roads Traversed’ is a series of 10, limited-run Cyanotype prints that capture the allure of Salt Spring Island roads, complemented by a corresponding work of poetry.

Artist Statement:

The roads of Salt Spring Island are where I learned to drive. After spending years in many different cities and countries, my husband and I relocated to the island in 2016 to raise our children. Strong sentimental waves of nostalgia poured into me as I found myself driving these winding country roads once again. I began to capturing these seemingly moving images. As I did, words began to form, resulting in the corresponding poetry that addresses themes of self-discovery, reminiscence, and the perpetual journey of change. They also speak of processes derived from filmmaking, photography and printmaking. I chose Cyanotype as my print medium to elevate the timelessness of the images and to merge the past with the present in hopes of provoking the same deeply enticing intimacy of place within the viewer.

The cyanotype is a photographic printing process that traditionally uses the chemicals ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide to create a cyan-blue (or “Prussian Blue”) print. It was originally developed in the 1840s as the first photographic print technique and later for copying architectural drawings known as 'blueprints'.

Each 22 x 30” cyanotype print is hand processed on Arches Platine 310gsm 100% cotton rag archival, no alkaline reserve, acid-free, heavy weight paper with 4 deckled edges. Due to the nature of Cyanotype and the intention of the artist, each print will have unique flaws and imperfections. Editions are signed and numbered by the artist. All unframed prints rolled and shipped in a cardboard tube with glassine sheet.
